Curly Hair And How To Care About It

Published Categorized as Curly Hair Care Tips

Scientists have spent many years to investigate the structure of curly hair and to distinguish between straight and curly strands. It turned out that curly strands are a matter of genetics, they are inherited and, unlike straight one, have their own peculiarities in the structure. If you look at curly hair in a cut, you will see that it is not round, but oval in shape.

There are different types of curls, from strongly curling to light curls: this depends on how far the oval laid in the structure of the hair extends.

Special care for curly hair

Curly hair is thinner, more brittle and disobedient than straight one. It can be soft and airy or dry and hard. This is because the curly locks are porous in structure, their natural curves interfere with the circulation of natural moisturizers and oxygen in the hair shaft, because of which strands often look overdried, especially at the ends, and fat at the roots. In other words, among the owners of curly locks people with a combined type of hair are more likely to be found.

According to Jonathan Torch curly hair institute research, during a lifetime curly hair can become straight. Such a miracle of nature occurs as a result of sudden hormonal changes, for example, during or after pregnancy, when taking contraceptives.

If you want to manage your unruly curly hair successfully, you should choose competent professional care.

Shampoo and conditioner

It is best to buy a shampoo for curly hair (there are also shampoos for dry, oily and normal curls). As a rule, these products contain a large amount of oils (jojoba, almonds, shea, lotus), which strengthen and moisturize the hair shaft, restore the natural nourishment of the scalp and special herbal extracts regulate the activity of the sebaceous glands, reducing the increased fat content of the dermis.

After washing your head, you should not skip the ritual of washing your hair with a conditioner, it is usually sold together with shampoo, also contains oils and useful ingredients especially for curly strands. This tool closes and smoothens hair scales, removes static electricity, nourishes and moisturizes, prevents split ends.

It is also recommended to periodically use oils, emulsions and hair serums with keratin supplements.

However, owners of curly hair should avoid shampoos, balms and other means for giving volume. Their components (usually there are silicones in the composition) raise the scales of the hair, the already porous structure of the strands is deprived of the last protective force, and the hair becomes brittle.

Hair masks

To tame the disposition of disobedient strands, Jonathan Torch, the founder of curly hair institute recommends using various masks, which are needed to strengthen curly locks. There are also means for colored and black curly hair that soften, moisturize, make the barrel of the curls elastic. These products contain keratin, oils, herbal extracts that glue the hair scales, providing protection over the entire length.

You need to apply masks once or twice a week. In addition to professional products, it is possible to make different nourishing masks out of oils and herbs, which you will surely find in your kitchen.

Avocado mask

Take 50 grams of almond and the same amount of olive oil, mix with the avocado puree. Apply on the hair along the entire length, wash off after 30 minutes with shampoo.

Chocolate mask

This mask not only nourishes the scalp and makes the hair obedient, it lifts the mood and energizes. Take a tablespoon of jojoba oil, as much cocoa butter and a teaspoon of cognac. Mix it. Apply on hair, put a plastic bag on top, wrap the head with a towel. Leave  it on your hair for 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water.

Carrot mask

Add two tablespoons of lemon juice to a glass of carrot juice, a glass of broth of mint (brew dried mint in a glass of boiling water). Apply the mask on clean hair, leave for 20 minutes and rinse with warm water.
